James L. Stam   Biography

Jim Stam is founder and President of the 24/7 Strategies Group, started in January 2000 to continue the business conducted by Jim since 1990 under the name Circadian Technologies Services. In the past 10 years, Jim has personally helped approximately 500 manufacturing facilities with converting from 5-day to 7-day or 24/7 operations, working with some groups for only a day or two to provide overall education and guidance, and in other cases working on-site periodically for up to two years to help them with managing 24/7 operations.

Jim's experience covers companies in almost every manufacturing industry and also companies of varying size, ranging from small, one-plant operations to some of the world's largest manufacturers. He has worked in both union and nonunion facilities, in plants which have effective self-managed teams and in facilities with a more traditional management structure.

Prior to founding CTS, Jim was Executive Vice President of Circadian Technologies Inc. from May 1987 until summer of 1990 when he formed Circadian Technologies Services. Before joining Circadian Technologies, Jim was a Partner in the Management Consulting Group at Ernst & Young (formerly Arthur Young), an international accounting and management consulting firm, working in a wide variety of areas, with a primary focus in manufacturing, specifically working in cost accounting, MRP II, total quality management, and related services for manufacturers in a variety of industries. In addition, Jim's experience includes strategic planning, human resources management, organization, financial management, systems and operational analysis. He was also an instructor in various training programs.

Further, Jim has held senior management positions at two manufacturing companies, with responsibilities in finance, operations, planning, sales and marketing.

Jim's education includes a B.A. degree with honors in Economics from Oberlin College and he attended the Masters Program at the Sloan School of Management at MIT.

Jim often makes presentations on the topics of Converting to 7-Day Operations, Shift Schedule Options, 12-Hour Shifts, Achieving Shiftwork Excellence and Managing Change.

Read a white paper co-written by Jim Stam entitled "A Productive - and Human - Approach to Shift-work Operations".
